A SHORT HISTORY OF THE FARM
In the year 1886, 10 years before the great hunter Frederick Courteney Selous arrived in Africa, Pieter Johannes van Heerden built the first homestead on this property, the last frontier of the Northern Transvaal Bushveld, the Waterberg.
From this base, he explored the Northern Territories and for nearly 30 years he wandered through Africa, hunting ivory in the Limpopo Valley, Botswana, and Rhodesia. He returned to his wife and family only every 2 to 3 years to sell the ivory, repair his wagons and restock for his next safari.
ACCOMODATION
THE FARMHOUSE
The Farmhouse Lodge is built on the original foundations of the Van Heerden homestead. Nestled between mountains and water with game grazing right at your doorstep. Here you will be treated to South African favorites by our cooks and served a specially selected range of South African wines from the Western Cape region, as well as local beers, whiskey, and brandy.
